Merlot is one of the most famous international grape varieties and its land of origin is Pomerol, near Bordeaux, France. The fame and diffusion all over the world are due to its organoleptic characteristics, especially in terms of fruit and softness. Ofena, 70 km away from the company's headquarters, is located in a foothill area dominated by the Gran Sasso d'Abruzzo massif, in the province of L'Aquila. The vineyard extends over a plateau with excellent exposure, 550 meters above sea level. The soils are friable and made up of alluvial terraces with a high content of gravel, similar to those of Bordeaux, whose main feature is to ensure excellent water drainage. Despite the mountain landscape, Ofena is nicknamed the "Abruzzo oven" due to the high temperatures that can be reached there in summer, since the sea breeze, blocked by the Gran Sasso, cannot mitigate the climate.
