The Canali-Femfert family dedicates this particularly suitable vineyard to their historic Chianti Classico, a pure Sangiovese that elegantly interprets the contemporaneity of its territory and, at the same time, tells it with the universal language of art. Since the first vintage, in 1981, in fact, the producers have invited an artist every year to create the label and the silk paper to wrap the bottle. An idea that over time has created a real "vertical" of artistic as well as oenological excellence. The Chianti Classico Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa 2018 is the 38th edition of this collection. “It's a classic vintage” explains Léon Femfert, second generation of the property. “We had a cold and snowy winter, a rightly rainy spring and a hot but not too hot summer. To top it all off, the period leading up to the harvest (two days of intense harvesting, 17 and 18 September) was kissed by a dry climate with significant temperature variations”. Johannes Heisig was called in to interpret this textbook vintage, known for his expressionist-inspired atmospheres, outlined by bold strokes and contrasting colours. The German artist has decided to represent on the label a Bacchus crowned with olive leaves offering a glass of wine to Sibyl, prophetess and muse of artists of all ages. On the silk paper, instead, it portrays the Vigna Doghessa vineyard. Strong and contrasting colors capture the deepest soul of the subjects, offering a vivid and almost sensual experience. "The works that Johannes Heisig, sensitive observer of the world, has dedicated to our Chianti Classico 2018 are a hymn of love to the land and its fruits, which seduce and bring joy" says Peter Femfert, father of Léon and important German gallery owner. And like in a mirror, the colors and emotions of the label are found in the glass. The 2018 vintage offers notes of ripe cherries and blueberry to the nose, with hints of exotic spices and well-integrated toasted notes. On the palate it is elegant and full, with an important texture of tannins which gives the wine length and perspective over time. The Chianti Classico Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa 2018 will be available in the best wine shops in a few weeks. Johannes Heisig, born in 1953 into the famous German Heisig family of artists, established himself as a university lecturer and artist, and today is famous at home and abroad for his expressionist-inspired personal idiom, which combines masterful technique, experimentation and complex content. His themes range from the most dramatic pages of German history to the psychological investigation of portraits, without forgetting the depth of landscapes. His works are exhibited in the most important German and European museums.
