Gattinara is an austere and complex wine, capable of decisively communicating the balance between its important harshness and its persuasive notes. The Gattinara DOCG terroir, of only 100 hectares of vineyards, has been devoted to the vineyard for over 7 centuries. Nebbiolo grapes, on the other hand, are depicted in the fresco that adorns the door of the village church, dating back to the 14th century, testifying to the central role of viticulture in the area.
Colour: ruby red tending towards orange. Bouquet: fine and pleasant, reminiscent of violets. Taste: dry, harmonious, with a characteristic bitter aftertaste.CURIOSITY': The story of "Torraccia del Piantavigna" dates back to the early 1950s, when Pierino Piantavigna planted a small vineyard on the hills of Ghemme, near the seventeenth-century castle of Cavenago. The name of the company, coined many years later and inspired by the passionate life that Pierino spent among the rows of his vineyards, derives from the appellation "Torraccia" given to a hill, particularly dear to Piantavigna, with exceptional exposure and almost circular which is located just north of the castle of Cavenago. The presence of the old tower of the castle, a real "torraccia" due to its state of abandonment, is another source of inspiration for the company name.
