CAMILLO Classification Bolgheri DOC White

Grapes Vermentino and Viognier Climate The 2021 vintage in Bolgheri was characterized by a prolonged dry period from June to September. However, unlike 2017, the particularly rainy winter helped to significantly increase the soil's water reserves, providing the vines with the right support throughout the production phase. Spring, basically cool, favored a slight delay in budding and subsequent flowering. Summer temperatures have never been excessive, allowing for a slow and regular ripening of the grapes which were intact and healthy at the time of the harvest. The harvest took place on September 7 for the Viognier and on the 14th and 15th of the same month for the Vermentino. Vinification and aging The two varieties were vinified separately and the harvest took place by hand in 10kg crates, choosing only the best bunches. 70% of the grapes thus selected, after a light pressing, was fermented in stainless steel with subsequent aging on the lees for 4 months. 30% of each variety was instead fermented in new French oak Tonneaux with subsequent aging for 4 months. In mid-May the blend was carried out, choosing the best combination of the different lots obtained in order to enhance the flavour, gustatory persistence and longevity of the wine. Bottling took place in mid-July 2022. Alcohol content 13% Vol. Historical data Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of the Upper Maremma, about a hundred kilometers south-west of Florence . This denomination has a relatively short history (it was born in 1994) but boasts an international reputation as a new point of reference in the world wine scene. Tenuta Guado al Tasso covers an area of 1,000 hectares - 320 planted with vineyards, the rest cultivated with wheat, sunflowers and olive trees - in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater" due to its particular shape. The vineyards of Tenuta Guado al Tasso are mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino grapes, the latter cultivated with both white and black berried grapes. The vineyards enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the sea: the constant breezes mitigate the summer heat and the rigors of winter, clear the sky and keep the insolation index high. The name Camillo pays homage to the vineyard of the same name, place of origin of the first vintage of Vermentino from Tenuta Guado al Tasso. Born from the desire to produce a white capable of expressing itself today as in the years to come, Camillo represents the Bolgheri area through carefully selected Vermentino and Viognier grapes. Tasting notes Camillo has a straw yellow color with slight greenish reflections. The nose expresses balance, intensity and precision through floral notes that recall orange blossom and fruity sensations of pineapple and apricot. On the palate it is fine, sapid and long.
