The name Glarea derives from Rhaeto-Romance and means gravel, a clear reference to the particular conformation of the land from which this wine is born.

Description
grape variety: Chardonnay yield: 55 hl/hectare altitude: between 220 and 280 m slm soil: the vineyards are located on the alluvial fan formed by the Höllenbach stream, in a soil rich in limestone gravel located on the first slopes of the highest peaks of the Mendola, including Roen (at 2116 m). climate: cold winds that blow from the Höllental valley towards the bottom of the Adige valley, thanks to their weight, accumulate precisely in these vineyards. The position at a low hilly altitude and the proximity of the valley floor, therefore, create a microclimate whereby the Glarea vineyards are very hot during the day and subject to the accumulation of cold air at night, especially in the later hours and early morning, benefiting thus of extraordinary temperature changes.
