The hills of Fiego, from which the name Fiegorosso originates, are a micro-area of the Donnici sub-area of the PDO Terre di Cosenza, where Magliocco Dolce has always been grown. The particular exposure and the unique microclimate determine a characterization in terms of soil and climate and ampelography; the plants are the historical ones, cultivated with saplings, with very low average yields and manual harvesting.
Classification: Terre di Cosenza DOP Donnici sub-area; Typology: red; Bottles Produced: 35,000 Territory: Donnici is a small village located south of Cosenza which identifies a wider hilly area between 400 and 600 meters above sea level. bounded by the Crati and Savuto rivers. “Fiego” is a particularly suitable area in the Donnici area, from which the grapes used for the vinification of this magnificent red wine come; Vines: native to the area, such as mainly Magliocco Dolce, Greco Nero and native to the area, Malvasia Bianca, albeit in minimal quantities as per tradition. Cultivation method: traditionally sapling, with low average yield per hectare. Harvest period : being in the hills, the harvest takes place from mid to late October; Vinification: soft pressing and long maceration on the skins; p Fermentation: in steel with controlled temperatures; Refinement: first in steel, then judicious evolution in the bottle; ORGANOLEPTIC CHARACTERISTICS Colour: ruby red, with purplish reflections tending towards garnet in evolution; Bouquet: intense and persistent, clear cherry and blackberry, only hints of spicy cinnamon and licorice in the finish; Flavour: it is a full-bodied wine, with a great personality, soft and elegant, rightly tannic, excellent persistence on the palate; Gastronomic Pairings: particularly recommended with regional cuisine such as fusilli with lamb sauce, caciocavallo silano; Service temperature: 18-20 °C. after oxygenation; Alcohol content: 13% vol. Awards and Acknowledgments: widely paid attention to by all the major sector guides (Gambero Rosso, Vini Buoni d'Italia, Luca Maroni, Paolo Massobrio, Vitae AIS, Bibenda FIS, Veronelli) with flattering evaluations, among the many awards received, the Fiegorosso is awarded in 2015 by Gambero Rosso's Almanacco del Bere as the best red wine in southern Italy for its quality/price ratio.
