MAb Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2020 - Abbazia di Propezzano

In the glass it has an intense ruby red color, as it is on the nose with its hints of dark pulp fruits to anticipate clear herbaceous and spicy romandi. A generous and direct wine, very smooth on the palate and with a long persistence. Absolutely to be tried with meat-based second courses seasoned with winter vegetables, excellent when paired with medium-aged cheeses on a nice mixed platter with cold cuts.

Description

The Propezzano Abbey is even mentioned in a papal bull of Bonifacio IX and in-depth historical studies suggest that it was even founded in the year 715 AD following an apparition of the Madonna to three parked German wayfarers. So it was that the order for the construction of a church with a bell tower was immediately given, later consecrated by Pope Gregory II. A pity that few fragments remain of the original building, the current structure was in fact rebuilt and enlarged in the second half of the 1200s by the Benedictine friars. Today the Propezzano Abbey is connected to a thriving farm producing wine, oil, cereals and vegetables. The vineyard area is about 20 hectares devoted to the cultivation of mostly native vineyards such as Pecorino, Passerina, Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Among the rows there are also crops of international vines such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are processed in full respect of the cycles of nature and the most ancient winemaking traditions of a territory that is the most prestigious denomination of origin area in the world. Abruzzo, that of the Teramo hills. The wines of the Propezzano Abbey undoubtedly represent the highest enological expression of the area.
