Merlot Sansonina I.G.T. 2017 Magnum - Zenato

The journey of a wine, from the vineyard to the cellar. Characterized by a plant with a high number of vines per hectare, the Sansonina vineyard comes from the selection of a series of French Merlot clones. The grapes have sparse clusters and small berries, this allows for a prolonged ripening without health problems and to have a natural greater concentration of anthocyanins, tannins and polyphenolic substances. Particular attention is paid to the agronomic operations, to obtain a high leaf surface and reach a complete phenolic ripeness and not just sugar. The grapes are harvested in boxes with the utmost respect for their integrity after destemming and crushing, the must is transferred to wooden vats where it is possible to control the fermentation temperature. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation and after a further maceration on the skins, the new wine is put as soon as possible in new French barriques with different toasting. A decisive factor, to obtain a great result, is the continuous control of the wine in this crucial phase, with repeated tastings and analyzes especially as regards the presence of oxygen, a decisive element for its evolution. After the refinement, only the best barriques are selected and the wine is assembled in large oak barrels, where it rests for a month. Sansonina is then cold bottled without any external stabilization intervention, to keep its biological and chemical integrity intact. SANSONINA 1997 First harvest obtained from a few rows of old Merlot vineyards: the harvest begins on 21 October 1997. A harvest that everyone considers historic for climate, health and quality of the grapes. From the 1500 vine stocks of the old vineyard, 6,000 kg of grapes were collected from which 36 hl of wine were obtained. The wine was left to mature for months in barriques and when the time came to think about the bottle, here is the intuition to pack it in magnum bottles where it can evolve better. Characteristics : Color : intense ruby red, very deep Bouquet : rich and compact, ample, complex, warm and fruity there are notes of ripe red fruit, plum jam, cherry, blueberry, cocoa, toasted, with very slight balsamic nuance and an almost imperceptible touch of herbaceous Taste : full, warm, full-bodied and very elegant at the same time, round, soft, caressing, with extraordinary aromatic persistence.
