Brut sparkling wine from Vermentino grapes – Tenuta La Chiusa The estate overlooks the Gulf of Portoferraio and owes its name to the wall that surrounds it and encloses the 20 hectares of property, mostly planted with vineyards and olive trees. The main activity is the production and sale of traditional Elba wines (white, red, rosé, aleatico) and extra virgin olive oil. The origins date back to the end of the 1500s, with the birth of the cellars and the ancient village. The wall and the patronal villa date back to the early 1800s. La Chiusa also hosted Napoleon Bonaparte on two occasions: the first time immediately after his arrival on the island while he was at anchor waiting to be received with due honors in Portoferraio and subsequently after a hunting trip on Mount Fabbrello. Tenuta La Chiusa's Brut sparkling wine is made only from Vermentino grapes, harvested in advance of those destined for still wine. The harvest at the end of August is followed by a soft pressing of the grapes and finally a slow fermentation at a controlled temperature. The sparkling process takes place with the Charmat method. The color is a lively straw yellow; on the nose delicate floral hints of broom and acacia followed by notes of apple. The taste is sapid and fresh, with a good persistence. Ideal as an aperitif, with vegetable and fish-based appetizers, fried dishes, first courses with vegetable or fish sauces.
