Climate
The 2017 vintage, characterized by low production and excellent ripening of the grapes, gave the wine an excellent potential, enhancing its typical varietal aromas. Winter was characterized by temperatures below the seasonal average and scarce rainfall. During the month of April, once the germination had already taken place, there was a frost capable of causing a reduction in production but without affecting the quality of the grapes. The light rains in May preceded a generally dry and dry summer period, favored by the presence of hot winds. The harvest began with the Merlot on 6 September and ended on the 27th of the same month with the Sangiovese.
Vinification
The Sangiovese grapes have carried out a winemaking process aimed at preserving the aromas and freshness of the fruit. After about 10 days of maceration, the wine obtained was transferred to large barrels, where the malolactic fermentation took place and where it began its maturation process lasting about 12 months. Following bottling, which took place in the spring of 2019, the wine underwent a further refinement of about a year.
Historical data
La Braccesca extends over 508 hectares where the ancient farm of the Bracci counts once stood, hence the name of the estate and its coat of arms: an arm covered with armor holding a sword. The total area of the vineyards is 340 hectares divided into two parts: the first, of 366 hectares of which 237 are planted with vineyards, is located on the border between the municipality of Montepulciano and that of Cortona. The other plot, 142 hectares of which 103 are vineyards, extends as far as Montepulciano between three of the most renowned sub-areas for the production of great red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano. The first vintage of La Braccesca Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG was 1990.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a ruby red color. On the nose the notes of fresh red fruit are combined with pleasant hints of vanilla. On the palate it is well balanced, soft, characterized by silky tannins and a good freshness. Along the finish.
