Keir, a complex wine, is an absolute novelty. It is in fact the first production with vinification and aging in amphora by Tua Rita . A method that is lost in the history of wine culture, as it is known, it has the strength and the privilege of enhancing the varietal characteristics of the grape. It has a limited production.
Drink now until 2030. There is no need to decant before serving. Tua Rita is known for her sublime Super Tuscans which consistently draw top scores from international wine critics, but the Keir marks a bold new direction for the estate. This limited edition version is made with 100% Syrah and vinified on the skins in amphorae for three months. The new wine is then transferred to used oak barrels where it spends another five months before bottling. This innovative use of clay vessels for fermentation followed by maturation in used oak barrels showcases and emphasizes the quality of the grapes. The nose opens with ripe plums, cherries and crushed dark berries, while the first sip reveals a lively freshness, gentle tannins and a strong structure. Hints of bacon and tobacco smoke along with hints of blackberry and black currant persist for a long time on the palate, inviting sip after sip. The unique Keir is a testament to the vision of Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti who founded Tua Rita in 1984 after purchasing 1 hectare of vineyard in the Notri di Suvereto sub-area, in southern Tuscany. In a short time the estate was selling grapes to Sassicaia before deciding to bottle its wines and expand the property to the 30 hectares it covers today.
