Il territorio di Villamagna ha una tradizione plurisecolare nella coltivazione della vite, attestata dal suo stesso nome (“villa magna” significa infatti “grande podere”), ed è da sempre considerato come il più vocato per la produzione di uve Montepulciano. E’ ormai dal 2011 che quest’area è stata identificata con la Denominazione di Origine Controllata, volta a delimitare la prestigiosa zona di produzione che si trova nell’omonimo comune di Villamagna e nei comuni limitrofi di Vacri e Bucchianico. Soli 85 ettari di vigneto selezionati sono entrati a far parte di questa importante microzona.
