This Riserva was revived from the 2010 vintage almost 20 years after its last edition in 1992. We took that break because over the past 26 years we have progressively reselected and replanted our historic vineyards; we had concentrated on clonal selections, on the different expressiveness of Sangiovese in relation to soil and climatic variations and on the possibility of combining the characteristics of Sangiovese with other international vines. In 2010, however, we found an increased complexity and structure in the grapes from the first replantings of native vines, which convinced us to re-propose the Riserva di Vino Nobile only from native grapes, just like in the 70s and 80s.

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Santa Pia La Braccesca of the Marchesi Antinori was born in the homonymous estate, located on the Sienese hills. It is produced exclusively with Prugnolo Gentile grapes, harvested only by hand during the month of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 ° C for 20 days. Subsequently the wine is aged in barrique for 15 months and for another 20 months in the bottle before being put on the market.

The label of the Riserva "Sotto Casa" produced starting from the 2011 vintage is the natural evolution of our Vino Nobile Riserva black label produced with the idea of harmonizing the elegance, character and freshness of Sangiovese with the tannic texture, the structure and fullness of two international vines, Cabernet and Merlot. The main difference between the two labels lies in the fact that the "Sotto Casa" is a CRU and the grapes used in its production do not come from different parcels but from a single vineyard which gives its name to the wine.

The other plot, 142 hectares of which 103 are vineyards, extends as far as Montepulciano between three of the most renowned sub-areas for the production of great red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano.
