Cortaccio Villa Cafaggio is a wine of extraordinary stature and has a garnet red color, an intense aroma with hints of blackcurrant and a perfectly integrated toasting note. On the palate it is of remarkable concentration but at the same time perfectly harmonious, rightly tannic and very persistent. The grapes are de-stemmed and delicately pressed in order not to damage the skin rich in coloring matter. Selected yeasts are added to the must to activate fermentation while the wine remains in contact with the skins for 3 weeks. After the primary fermentation, the Cortaccio is transferred to a room dedicated exclusively to malolactic fermentation, which takes place entirely in French oak barriques and which allows to produce a wine of great structure and balance.
Conca d'Oro, the land of Chianti
The Cafaggio estate covers approximately 60 hectares, divided into 30 hectares of specialized vineyards, approximately 3 hectares of olive groves and the remainder in the woods in Panzano, a hamlet of Greve in Chianti, immersed in the "Conca d'Oro", recognized as a of the best areas for the production of Chianti Classico.
Cafaggio produces four “Chianti Classicos”: Basilica Solatìo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, Basilica San Martino Chianti Classico Riserva, a Chianti Classico Riserva and a Chianti Classico. Cafaggio also produces two other "Cru": Basilica del Cortaccio Cabernet Sauvignon and Basilica del Pruneto Merlot.
