The history of Braida is linked to that of Rocchetta Tanaro, a small town in the Monferrato Astigiano. 'My village is not a surprise, it is ten vineyards, six houses, one church': these are the words of the chansonnier Paolo Frola, who is also the town doctor of Rocchetta. The song was written with Gianni Mura, drinking Barbera di Rocchetta. Of those ten vineyards sung by Frola, some are Braida. They belonged to grandfather Giuseppe, then passed to father Giacomo, and now Giuseppe and Raffaella Bologna cultivate them. The company was born from the enthusiasm, passion and entrepreneurial courage of a Rocchettese 'Doc', Giacomo Bologna.

'Braida' was the nickname Giacomo's father, Giuseppe Bologna, a carter by profession, had earned playing elastic ball, due to his resemblance to a champion of the sport. From his father Giacomo inherited, along with his nickname, a love of sport and horses and a large Barbera vineyard in the hills of Rocchetta.
