ESAURITO
One of the oldest wineries is Karth, which was started by Carthusian monks and has been producing wine since 1335. In 1811, the winery was sold to the Rautenstrauch family and is now managed by Albert P. Behler, who succeeded his cousin Christoph Tyrell. It was the latter who, in the mid-1980s, subdivided this large hillside vineyard into parcels, which today offers a series of labels representing the different realities of this Riesling that thrives in the Ruwer valley, near the town of Trier. The steeply sloping, schistous soils with a south-south-west exposure offer the ideal conditions for the production of wines of the highest level, prized above all for their freshness, long shelf life and elegant minerality.
