St Urbans-hof

The winery was founded in 1947 by Nicolaus Weiss in Leiwen, a small town on the Moselle river. Nicolaus began as a shoemaker while also cultivating his passion for wine. Politically active, in 1969 he received the title of "Oekonomierats", an honor recognized to personalities particularly involved and active in the development of the economy, in this case the wine economy. Nicolaus Weiss chooses the name "CANTINA DI S. URBANO" for his activity, from the patron saint of wine. After his death in 1971, his son Hermann with his wife Ida expanded the property by purchasing other vineyards in the Moselle and Saar areas. Today the winery has 35 hectares and has become one of the most famous in the region. Nik Weiss, the son of Hermann and Ida, continues the family tradition as company manager.
