Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo
Corgo Douro peak - Portugal
The Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is located in the Cima Corgo area, the heart of the Douro valley's viticulture, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. It was founded in 1756 by owners belonging to the Portuguese royal house, in 1999 it was taken over by the Amorim family, currently recognized as the most powerful cork producer. Of the 120 hectares of land belonging to the estate, currently 85 hectares are planted with vines, only with native varieties, to obtain a sophisticated mix of traditional vines: Vinha Velha, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela and Souzão. The vineyards are located on terraces (Patamares) at an average altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The rest of the land is used as an ecological clearing area. Amorim's philosophy is well defined: to enhance and make the specific terroir of Quinta Nova identifiable, producing classic wines and guaranteeing high quality through rigorous viticulture, with continuous innovations in winemaking methods.
