The grapes have a strong anthocyanin charge, good acidity and a good sugar content. The vine has this name because the Tuscan wool merchants recognized a resemblance to their grapes and thought it was a mutation of Sangiovese.

In the high pastures of the Maiella, the mother mountain of Abruzzo, it can happen to come across tholos, particular pseudo-dome structures made by piling up dry stones. They are rural shelters, linked to the pastoral world, but actually have a noble and remote origin. In fact, examples of tholos can be found in various areas of the Mediterranean: from the Mycenaean civilisation to Etruscan tombs, from Roman buildings to Sardinian nuraghi, to the trulli of Puglia, also belonging to the same category of ancient and often sacred constructions.

Carefully selected Montepulciano dAbruzzo grapes generate this complex and powerful cru, aged for 18 months in new barriques and 12 in the bottle, with great structure, elegance, balance and long persistence.
