The Estate
Castello del Terriccio represents one of the largest agricultural estates in Tuscany: around 1,500 hectares in total, 65 of which are planted with vines and 40 with olive trees, extending along the northern edge of the Tuscan Maremma near Bolgheri.
The fortunate combination of soil, air and light make this microcosm unique, where nature and man's intervention are integrated with balance. With far-sightedness, man has been able to safeguard the biodiversity of the land over time, maintaining the presence of different crops and spontaneous vegetation alongside the vineyards.
The estate offers views of rare beauty and charm: the vineyards alternate with woods of turkey oaks, oaks, holm oaks, eucalyptus and Mediterranean scrub that colours and perfumes the landscape. Beyond the scrubland are meadows, farmhouses, and grassy expanses sloping down to the sea bordering the Maremma coast between Castiglioncello and Bibbona. The many streams and the lake that collects them provide water for the flora and abundant wildlife.
From the property one can see, on clear days, four islands of the Tuscan archipelago. At sunset, the spectacle of the blazing sun disappearing into the Tyrrhenian Sea. The ruins of the medieval castle that gives the estate its name are located on the highest hill, the one with the highest view.
In addition to vineyards and olive groves, the property includes an important Limousine cattle farm in the wild.
