About us
The wine business started in 1920 with Baron Luigi Cataldi Madonna, four generations ago. But it was his son Antonio who bottled for the first time in 1975. In 1990, his grandson Luigi took over, continuing the family project of characterising the products and enhancing the territory. Until the early 1990s, the company Cataldi Madonna practically presided alone over the entire Ofena wine-growing area. Today, the company consists of 30 hectares (planted exclusively with native and traditional vines such as Montepulciano, Pecorino and Trebbiano), all located in the municipality of Ofena between 320 and 440 metres above sea level. In the vineyard, the aim is to protect the varietal expressiveness of the grapes, especially through the management of the foliage. In the cellar, the aim is to preserve in the wine the grit, flavour and freshness present in our grapes.
Our spirit
The search for harmony characterises the company in every aspect of its work, both externally, promoting the relaunch of viticulture in mountainous Abruzzo, and internally, with a close-knit, multi-functional team: Pierluigi Menichetti, administrative and commercial manager; Elisabetta Andreassi, accounting clerk; Valerio Carota, cellarman and assistant tractor driver; Silver Bislimi and Fabrizio Delfino, tractor drivers and assistant cellar drivers. These are joined by agronomist/enologist Lorenzo Landi (since 2003) and Giulia Cataldi Madonna, the current owner.
