THE MOLISEAND ITS HISTORY: THE TERRITORY
In Molise, wine has a tradition dating back to the Samnites and the Romans, who introduced vine cultivation there. Production methods are those handed down from one generation to the next in the southern Apennines, always linked to the values of the peasant world. Masseria di Majo Norante is located north of the Gargano, in contrada Ramitelli, in the countryside of Campomarino, where the clayey, partly sandy soil and the summer breeze combine to create a particularly favourable habitat. Alessio di Majo Norante, a stubborn and countercultural winemaker, has sacrificed productivity and standardisation of taste to the constant pursuit of quality and typicality, in the conviction that southern vines are better suited to the soil and climatic conditions of the Contado del Molise.
NEW WINES FROM OL D GRAPE VARIETIES
The predisposition to select clones of indigenous southern grape varieties through the study of their adaptability to the soil is at the origin of all the wines Di Majo Norante. Ancient grape varieties such as Aglianico, Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Tintilia for the production of red wines, Falanghina and Greco for the production of white wines; Moscato reale for sweet passito. The experimentation with these grape varieties and the good results achieved have encouraged the winery to persevere in the courageous choice that enables it to produce great wines that respond perfectly to the complexity of contemporary tastes.
