Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

SKU: 6456
Produced with Trebbiano Abruzzese grapes, from a canopy vineyard in the hills of the municipality of Francavilla al Mare. The plant follows a type of conventional agriculture. The yields of the vineyard respect the provisions of the Trebbiano production disciplinary; the average production of the latest harvests is around 140 quintals per hectare. This result is obtained through agricultural practices implemented during the summer period, with green pruning carried out in two or more phases, light and never too invasive fertilizations. The harvest, in regular seasons, takes place in the first half of September with a manual harvest. During the day of harvest, the grapes are brought to the cellar, they are immediately vinified and separated from the stalks to then be pressed at the end of the harvest day. The fermentation of the wine is obtained with the aid of selected yeasts, controlling the progress and monitoring the fermentation temperatures; to prevent them from rising, the mass is refrigerated. At the end of this period, the wine is decanted and left to refine. Finally, it is initiated through all the control and stabilization procedures before being placed on the market in the bottle.

This vine cultivated also in other countries besides Italy, for example in France where it is used for the production of Armagnac and Cognac, has ancient origins and already Pliny the Elder mentioned it as vinum Trebulanum. But Trebbiano has found its maximum expression in Abruzzo probably thanks to the climatic conditions and the characteristics of the land which, despite being hilly and mountainous, are affected by the proximity of the sea. It prefers clayey and limestone soils at the foot of the central Gran Sasso massif.

The desire to try our hand at the production of artisanal wines with historical and indigenous varieties is one of the reasons that led us to produce this Trebbiano. The grapes from the oldest vineyard we have on the farm are harvested by hand in September, and then they are pressed and pressed in order to obtain the must to be used for vinification. Alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously by indigenous yeasts through the preparation of a "pied de cuve", created by selecting the ripest grapes before their harvest. Since 2018 Trebbiano Fosso Cancelli is vinified and aged partly in terracotta amphorae and partly in Slavonian oak barrels.
